The cool, serene simplicity of the night air brushed against my skin carrying icy-yet peaceful- chills up my spine. Darkness was slowly approaching the abandoned beach; I sat there alone on the damp ground wishing to forever stay in this moment.
Gentle waves quietly creeped upon the shore leaving their subtle mark against the sand, as the reflection of the rising moon on the water glimmered a small but beautiful light. A large gust of unexpected wind flew across my still body, splashing drops of water into my open mouth and eyes. The cold, salty taste of the brisk water tickled down my throat creating an entirely new sense of happiness.
As I laid back into the dewy sand, stretching my arms and feet as far as I could, I toke a lingering breathe of fresh air. With my eyes now focused upon the dimming sky, the image of the faint shining stars suddenly left me feeling breathless. Earth, our world, in my mind was no longer as big and grand as it had always seemed. There were billions and billions of stars looking down on me, just as I was looking up at them, but in their eyes I was nothing more than a tiny invisible speck. The complications of my life no longer mattered. The endless sea ahead of me and the calm breeze surrounding me, gave me reassurance of what was truly important in life.
I slowly stood up and walked over to the edge of the shore. The sky was blackening now, but still, my own reflection was vaguely visible upon the moving water. As I looked down at myself one last time, I knew something about that night had changed me inside.
And in that very moment, the quiet sound of crickets chirping and the rippling ocean crashing forever became my sublime soundtrack of simplicity.
