Twenty Ten

The new year is finally here! It's already day 5 in the new decade, and some people have already given up one at least one of their New Years resolutions.

What promise did you make to yourself on New Years? If it was spending more time with family and friends, loosing weight, quitting smoking, being more organized, learning something new or helping others, you have chosen one of the most common resolutions and sorry to say- you could be part of the 64% of people who don't end up fulfilling them.

I've always been curious why people feel the need to set goals for themselves on New Years. Yes it's a “new year” but what really makes it so special? You don't feel much different than you did on December 31st, and technically nothing has changed besides a number.

I believe some people use New Years resolutions as an excuse. If they failed their previous resolution they trick themselves into thinking that they will have to wait until the next New Years until they can try again. January is just another month, if you really want to achieve something and start something new, you can do it whenever you want. There's no waiting needed. If you truly want to do something, no one is stooping you, not even that awaiting January 1st that's just a cheap excuse to put a challenge off to the side in hopes that maybe next year you will be able to do it.

Some people might just be scared of commitment, if what they want to achieve doesn't happen right away they give up and wait again until the next year. It was even proven in a study that 29% of people give up on their resolutions in less than two weeks, 46% keep it up for a month, and 50% for three months!

The first step in achieving your New Years resolutions is setting realistic goals! The #1 reason why people give up so early is because they are so unrealistic that they get frustrated and just give up when it doesn't work out the way they wanted right away.

If you truly want to set new goals and make positive changes in your life, don't feel the need to wait, and most certainly don't give up.

“You may have a fresh start any moment you choose, for this thing we call 'failure' is not the falling down, but the staying down.”
-Mary Pickford

This is one of my favourite quotes! Very inspirational
